House tour aims to boost holiday spirit




Need a little Christmas?
Progress Through Preservation is celebrating early with a Holiday House Tour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 5 and 6. A house at 180 S. Rose Blvd. in Akron will be decorated by merchants for the event, which also includes an optional tea at the nearby O'Neil House.
Tickets are $10 for the tour only and $20 for the tour and tea. They can be ordered at http://www.preservationakron.org or purchased at the door on tour days.

Beekeeper needs votes

Teenage beekeeper Nicole Shimandle is again in the running for a $25,000 grant from Pepsi's Refresh Project.
Nicole, a sophomore at Aurora High School, didn't get enough votes to win a grant this summer but resubmitted her project for October's voting.
She wants to expand her beekeeping enterprise and her efforts to teach others about the importance of honeybees.
You can vote for her project daily by visiting http://www.refresheverything.com/savehoneybees or by texting the number 102816 to Pepsi at 73774. Voting ends Oct. 31.
